The incident took place around 1 p.m. when the young teen was trying to pick up a computer tablet and instructor Joshua Kahn, 59, reportedly became irate and yelled at her before pushing her six to eight times. The student hit her back on a bookshelf and suffered bruising. She was taken from the school on 18th Street near Sixth Avenue to Methodist Hospital for observation.

Kahn was arrested around 6:30 p.m. on Monday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, assault, and harassment, police said.

It is currently unclear what led to the assault.
